The light fades so early and quickly at day’s end we often find that we have not finished our tasks. Then we must rely on other sources of light to illuminate our way that we may continue our work. When we find that the darkness impedes our spiritual journey, we must also open ourselves to the light that is always available within our hearts. When our progress is impeded by lack of faith, trust, and belief, we have but to sit in the silence and focus on the breath that sustains us and the still small voice that informs us. Breathe in the light and exhale the flow of love. Namaste!

The word “renaissance” is defined as meaning “rebirth” or “renewal.” The implication is that it follows a time of darkness. In the world today, there are many instances of darkness, characterized by ignorance and intolerance, twin negatives that germinate in the shadows of dogma and distrust. When we allow the light of love to shine into the recesses in which these loathsome mindsets exist, we nurture the rebirth of acceptance of that which we may find different. As we move towards the darkest times of the year, we should strive to open our hearts to prepare for the rebirth that is ours to claim as our own. Namaste!

In the moment before dawn, when the stars are still visible, though fading slowly from view, we are able to contemplate our being as a part of the larger reality. The stars and we are one. The earth beneath our feet,  the barren trees casting shadows across the cold ground, and the first bird of morning raising its voice in welcome of the new day, all also share the energy that animates us upon this plane of existence. Within the All is a continuous energy that vibrates and energizes us as it informs and sustains us in the interdependent web. Namaste!

The poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti writes of anticipating a “rebirth of wonder.” As the darkness grows around us, we can throw off the cloak of fear and embrace the idea of anticipating such a rebirth in our lives and in the world. As we sit, candles glowing, their flames’ light reaching into the surrounding darkness, we can open the eyes of our heart to the potential for a new world being born out of the darkness and bursting forth soon, so soon, into the light. Now is the time to open our hearts to the coming “rebirth of wonder.” Namaste!

As the sun’s course decreases our hours of light, we can begin to welcome the darkness as a time for contemplation and renewal, a space in which we can contemplate our own cycles of personal darkness and light. As we ease into a slower pace of being, we can witness our own response to the shifting patterns of the world around us. In the darkness, there is the potential for the seed of inspiration to stir and envision its own vibrancy in the coming light. Namaste!

In the illusion that we accept as reality, we have arrived at the last month of the year. It is time to take stock and bear witness to the joys and sorrows we have experienced on this path. As we sit with candles lit to assuage the darkness that grows with each passing day, we can contemplate the glow that is reflected in our physical as well as spiritual eyes. The eyes of our heart begin to see and appreciate the growing awareness that the moment of rebirth is fast approaching. Namaste!
