All cultures celebrate festivals of light at this time of year as the darkness overwhelms us. From Diwali, to Chanukah, to Saint Lucy’s Day, to Christmas, to Kwanza, all holidays at this time of year incorporate light into their rituals. Whether stemming from the miraculous or from a call to service and inspiration, candlelight serves not only to illuminate the path we each must walk, but also reminds us that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience. The radiance of each spirit comes together in community to celebrate the vanquishing of the darkness of ignorance and intolerance and invites us to share in striving for the greater good of the All. The festivals of light remind us that we are all a part of the light of the Creative Spirit. Namaste!
